Buffalo, NY – City school officials announced Tuesday that all Buffalo public, charter and Catholic schools will be closed through the end of the week.
More than a dozen suburban districts have also closed through Friday. They are Akron Central, Amherst Central, Sweet Home, Williamsville Central, Clarence Central, Cheektowaga Central, Cheektowaga-Sloan, Cleveland Hill, Maryvale, Depew, Frontier Central, Hamburg Central, Ken-Ton, Lackawanna, Lancaster Central and West Seneca Central.
Some districts are planning to ask state education officials to shorten the school year so scheduled vacations aren't canceled or abbreviated.
Mayor Byron Brown says all city streets are now open. The State Police are offering assistance. Troopers are helping to direct traffic at some of the city's most dangerous intersections that are without signal lights. They're also providing patrols on streets like Bailey and Hertel Avenues and Main Street.
