Buffalo, NY – The State Education Department released data Wednesday on the results of Math exams given to students in grades three through eight last year.
The results show a steady and relatively higher level of achievement in Math in the elementary grades. Achievement levels dropped in the middle school grades.
The picture was much brighter in the wealthier Williamsville Central School District. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in Williamsville posted the highest scores of any local district on standardizes Math tests.
But the overall poor performance of middle school students statewide has education officials concerned. Since 2004, math instruction has been revised in all grades. And more teacher training is being offered.
