Tonawanda, NY – United Steel Workers walked off the job at the Dunlop Tire Plant in Tonawanda Thursday afternoon.
It is a part of strikes being staged at 12-Goodyear-Dunlop North American plants in the U-S.
The local strike effects about 12,000 workers at the Tonawanda Dunlop plant.
Outside the Dunlop plant on Sheridan Driver many motorists sounded their car their horns as a sign of solidarity for striking tire makers.
Members of United Steel Workers Local 135 began their strike shortly after 1'o'clock Thursday when the company and union failed to reach a deal on a new contract. Workers say the company wants to cut their wages and benefits.
WBFO'S Eileen Buckley talked with local workers as they walked the picket line.
