Piecing Together Evidence in Clarence Murder

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – Investigators continue to piece together information and evidence as they try to solve the murder of a 45-year old Clarence woman. An autopsy revealed that the attacker of Joan Diver used blunt force and strangled her.

Authorities have revealed a few more clues, but Diver's murder remains a mystery. We now know how she died. But Erie County Undersheriff Richard Donovan says they do not know what caused the blunt force trauma.

Donovan admitted that Sheriff Deputies missed Diver's body in the area where a volunteer search team found her on Sunday.

WBFO News asked Donovan if Diver had been raped. But he says that is part of extensive forensic testing that has not been completed. Donovan could not say if there were signs of sexual assault.

Donovan says while there are similarities to the unsolved murder 16 years ago of UB student Linda Yalem, who was rapped and strangled on the Amherst bike path, there is nothing right now to link these two cases. He says to make that assumption would be a "big leap".
