New Book Chronicles New York City Riots during Civil War

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Nine days after the battle of Gettysburg in the Civil War, the largest riots in American history broke out in New York City. An historical account of the riots and their impact on the forthcoming reconstruction of the south is chronicled in a new book titled "The Devil's Own Work: the Civil War Draft Riots and the Fight to Reconstruct America."

Author Barnet Schechter appeared at a booking signing at Talking Leaves Books this past weekend. He also joined WBFO's Mark Scott in studio to talk more about his book.
