Buffalo, NY – The latest polls say both Democratic gubernatorial candidate Eliot Spitzer and US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton are headed to overwhelming Democratic primary victories Tuesday.
According to the final Siena Research Institute poll before the primary, Attorney General Spitzer leads his Democratic challenger Tom Suozzi 72 to 15 percent. Siena spokesman Steven Greenberg says Spitzer's lead dropped slightly from July, but it's nothing he needs to lose any sleep over.
Clinton, meantime, has a 78 to 16 percent lead over labor activist Jonathan Tasini.
The race to succeed Spitzer as attorney general is a bit tighter, but not by much. Former US Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo leads former New York City Public Advocate Mark Green by a margin of 47 to 27 percent.
Pollster Greenberg says Cuomo has a strong lead heading into the primary. But he says a sizeable number of potential voters are still undecided. And while Cuomo has a significant lead upstate, he holds just a nine point lead in New York City, which will account for about 60 percent of the primary vote.
