More Uncertainty for Local Auto Workers

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – More uncertainly looms over Western New York's auto industry. Ford is reportedly planning to offer buy outs.

At the Ford Stamping Plant in Woodlawn local workers are waiting for details of this reported buyout. Vice president of United Auto Workers Local 897 Bob Reynolds says they learned of the buyout through the media and received no official communication from the company.

Ford recently announced that it plans close up to 14 facilities and cut 30,000 jobs. That could effect up to 300 local Ford workers.

Reynolds says it remains a very difficult environment as the union fights against the auto industry that is faced with a difficult financial state, not only at Ford, but also at GM. He says there is too much competition from overseas. Western New York business man Jack Davis, and candidate for congress agrees. He says the American auto industry is being destroyed but cheap foreign labor. WBFO'S Eileen Buckley reports.
