Buffalo, NY – Congressman Tom Reynolds joined together with local law enforcement officials and members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving Wednesday in taking the wraps off a new effort in the fight against drunk driving.
Reynolds said residents can expect an increased police presence, including sobriety checkpoints, on roads from August 18th until Labor Day.
The new initiative, called "Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest," is aimed at reducing a crime that killed nearly 17,000 people in the U.S. last year. Reynolds said it is important for officials on a variety of fronts to work together to reduce drunk driving-related accidents and deaths.
"Let's get drunk drivers off the road," Reynolds said. "It is something we can accomplish through education, enforcement and rehabilitation. We need to reduce needless accidents and deaths."
Currently, laws in all 50 states prohibit people from driving a vehicle if they have a minimum Blood Alcohol Concentration of point-zero-eight percent.
