Buffalo, NY – The EPA has given the company tearing down the former HO Grain Elevators until Friday for controlling dust at the site. The contractor voluntarily stopped demolition last week after the EPA found that the dust was violating the Clean Air Act.
Construction at the site of the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino continued Wednesday. But actual demolition of the former grain silos remains on hold. Water is still being poured on construction debris to keep dust particles at bay.
Wednesday was the original deadline for the company tearing down the HO Oats elevator to submit a new demolition plan. But instead, the contractor said they need more time. The EPA agreed.
But there is good news for residents who live across the street in the Loft apartments and nearby homes. The latest air samples taken by the EPA continue to show no asbestos contamination.
