Buffalo, NY – Weekend violence in the downtown entertainment district has prompted city officials to take action. Mayor Byron Brown says club owners will be held accountable for the behavior of their patrons both inside and outside their establishments.
A brawl broke out late Saturday and early Sunday morning at a hip-hop concert at the Tralf. Later, a man was shot to death while sitting in a car on Pearl Street.
Brown said the city will crack down on club owners who overbook their events.
"We want to make sure that this kind of thing does not occur in the future, where young people are coming downtown to a concert thinking they have a ticket, only to find the concert or event is oversold," Brown said.
But the Mayor said he does not want to blame the violence on hip-hop music. City officials are planning to meet with club and bar owners at some point to discuss ways of curbing unruly behavior by patrons.
