Buffalo, NY – There are thousands of vacant homes in Buffalo, many beyond repair. But instead of tearing them down and tossing away the debris, some experts say there's some value to those old homes.
Rather than demolishing an old home, David Bennick suggests "deconstructing" it -- that is, taking it apart piece by piece and salvaging reusable materials such as joists and siding. Bennick is a consultant who has been working in the deconstruction field for more than ten years.
Monday night, he took part in a community forum on Grant Street where he talked about the potential of building deconstruction in Buffalo. Before that, WBFO's Mark Scott was able to reach him on the phone. Click the "listen" icon above to hear the interview now or use your podcasting software to download it to your computer or iPod.
