Buffalo, NY – Lindy Ruff is expected to coach the Buffalo Sabres for Tuesday night's game in Washington against the Capitals.
Ruff has declined to speak publicly about his 11-year-old daughter Madeleine's recent illness. But Sabres officials have confirmed doctors have detected a mass the size of a quarter on her brain.
Sabres players are rallying around their coach. Goalie Martin Biron says they're offering Ruff their support and prayers.
"Family is everything that there is," said Biron. "People think hockey is the end of the world -- win or lose. But it is not."
Sabres spokesman Mike Gilbert delivered a brief update Monday, saying Madeleine is continuing to undergo tests and that more should be known about her condition by the end of the week.
