Republican Senate Candidate Discusses Homeland Security, Economy

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – There's a new candidate looking to take on US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in this November's election. She is Kathleen Troia McFarland, who was a Defense Department staffer during the Reagan administration but has not worked in the public sector since. McFarland entry in the race sets the stage for a Republican primary in September against former Yonkers Mayor John Spencer.

McFarland, who is known by her initials "KT," has created quite a buzz since she first announced plans to create a Senate exploratory committee one week ago. Up until last week, she was largely unknown. But McFarland is using her connection to the late Ronald Reagan in positioning herself as the Republican's best choice to challenge Senator Clinton in November.

McFarland joined WBFO's Mark Scott on the phone to talk about her candidacy. Click the "listen" icon above to hear their conversation now or use your podcasting software to download it to your computer or iPod.
