Area Braces for Damaging Winds

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – A drastic change in the weather is coming. The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Thursday night and Friday.

Meteorologist Tom Niziol says winds will be gusting up to 65 miles per hour.

"When you get winds that high, you're just below hurricane force," Niziol said. "In this type of situation, we can expect some power outages. We're going to see some tree limbs come down.

"With the recent weather pattern we've had here, much of the ground is not frozen. So, some of the more shallow-rooted trees in the very wet ground will have a better chance of coming down, particularly pine trees."

Niziol says residents living near the Lake Erie shoreline in Hamburg should be prepared for flooding from wind-driven waves.

Niziol says not much snow is associated with this storm. But he says there will be a drastic drop in temperature tomorrow, resulting in a flash freeze of roads and sidewalks.
