Buffalo, NY – Up to $7.5 million over five years will come to the University at Buffalo as part of a new strategic alliance with pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.
The money will be used to develop a Center of Excellence to study how drugs are distributed in the body and how the body responds to them.
UB's Dr. William Jusko, a pioneer in this field of research, says the centers work will lead to the development of new drug treatments that will respond with greater speed and precision within the body.
"Pfizer can help us identify cutting edge types of compounds. We can provide the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic models and expertise to help develop drugs more rapidly," Jusko said.
As part of partnership, Pfizer will provide $1.5 million a year for three years, with renewal possible for the following two years.
