Buffalo, NY – It was smooth sailing in Buffalo Common Council chambers Tuesday for two key appointments to the Brown Administration.
Buffalo attorney Alisa Lukasiewicz is the city's new corporation counsel. Lawmakers voted unanimously to confirm her appointment. Lukasiewicz is vowing that her main priority will be to aggressively go after those who are violating city housing codes.
"If we have to go house by house, we will," Lukasiewicz said. "All it takes is one absentee landlord and slumlords to really bring the neighborhood down, and the quality of life for its residents down. So that is one of my priorities."
Lukasiewicz replaces former corporation counsel Michael Riseman. Shortly after the vote, she took the oath of office to become the city's top attorney.
Lawmakers also approved Mayor Brown's appointment of Tanya Perrin-Johnson as the Commissioner of Community Services.
"Thank you for this appointment of Commissioner of Community Services," Perrin-Johnson said. "I do look forward to working with the Common Council and the citizens of Buffalo."
Perrin-Johnson had served as CEO of the YWCA since 1998. When Mayor Brown appointed her, he said she would act has his eyes and ears in the community.
