Buffalo, NY – President Bush unveiled the "American Competitiveness Initiative" in his State of the Union address this week. It would increase federal resources for research and development while making sure the nation's children have a strong foundation in math and science.
The President's proposal calls for $6 billion in funding for the initiative in Fiscal 2007 and a total investment of more than $136 billion over the next ten years.
As the head of a major research university, UB President John Simpson is following this development with keen interest. He joined WBFO's Mark Scott on the phone from his North Campus office Wednesday.
