Albany, NY – Republican Jeanine Pirro is ready to abandon her bid for the US Senate and switch to the race for New York state attorney general.
Two Republican sources -- speaking on the condition of anonymity -- tell The Associated Press in Albany that an announcement from the Westchester County district attorney could come as early as Thursday.
The "New York Post" reports in Wednesday's editions that sources close to the Pirro campaign said she would announce the switch either Thursday or Friday.
Pirro's campaign to seek the GOP nomination to run against Democratic incumbent Hillary Rodham Clinton has stumbled several times since she launched it earlier this year.
Pirro has been under pressure from top Republican leaders across the state to drop out of the Senate race and instead run for attorney general, a post currently held by Democrat Eliot Spitzer, who's running for governor in 2006.
