Strong Winds, Blowing Snow Tie Up Morning Commute

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Several inches of snow fell in Western New York overnight.

Blowing snow caused problems during the morning commute, as wind gusts topped 40 miles per hour. Several spin out accidents were reported on area expressways, tying up traffic for people trying to get to work.

Six inches of snow was reported in Clarence. The airport weather station officially recorded 2.3 inches.

Power outages were reported in North Tonawanda Friday morning, affecting about 2,000 customers. National Grid crews were brought in to make repairs.

Conditions were more severe in the eastern end of New York where many school districts closed today because of heavy snow.
