Washington, DC – Congresswoman Louise Slaughter met with military officials Wednesday to discuss future plans for the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.
Slaughter hosted top brass from the Air Force, Air Reserve and Air National Guard. She says she's pleased with their commitment to the base.
Earlier this year, the base was set to close under the Pentagon's Base Realignment and Closure or BRAC process. But Slaughter and base supporters fought to keep it open.
"We are lucky. We saved that Base. Now it's going to be even better than it was," Slaughter said. "It's been a tough, hard, grinding year. But it's coming to a good conclusion."
She says now that BRAC process is over nearly $8 million will be released for building a new crash, fire and rescue station at the base.
Under the final BRAC decision, the 107th Air Refueling Wing will be reorganized two years from now. Slaughter says she'd like to see the planes stay.
