Washington, DC – US Senator Charles Schumer met Wednesday with Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito.
Schumer's known as one of the toughest democrats to win over on the Senate Judiciary Committee. He met with Alito for over an hour in his office on Capitol Hill. Schumer says it too early to tell if Judge Alito's judicial philosophy is outside the mainstream.
"I find some of his cases troubling. They do seem to come out on the conservative side," Schumer said. "On the other hand today he cited examples where he landed in the other direction."
Schumer gave the Judge a list of 60 questions he might ask in confirmation hearings. The Senator has already requested another meeting with Alito before they begin in January.
