Buffalo, NY – An advocacy group that has played a key role in the community's Peace Bridge debate unveiled its preferred design for a new bridge yesterday.
The New Millennium Group asked renowned bridge architect Christian Menn to design a bridge that would serve either as a companion span or a replacement for the Peace Bridge. It's a cable-stayed bridge that features a curved design that the NMG says would offer motorists a spectacular view of the two shorelines.
The NMG's Patrick McNichol said they're raising the bar when it comes to bridge design.
"We want to raise the level of expectations that we deserve nothing less than excellence," McNichol said. "Frankly, the era of mediocrity is over."
McNichol said the $110 million price tag for the bridge is within the Public Bridge Authority's budget.
The authority's design jury will begin reviewing bridge proposals next month.
