Police Commissioner Promises Crackdown on Quality of Life Crimes

By Harold Sherrell

Buffalo, NY – Police Commissioner Rocco Diina announced Friday the Buffalo Police department plans to crack down on so called "quality of life" crimes.

Issues such as excessive noise, graffiti, and littering have been getting more and more attention in part due to Common Council President David Franczyk and various citizens groups.

Diina asks that the people of Buffalo try to show respect for one another and comply with quality of life laws.

"We're asking citizens to be respectful and considerate to your neighbors," Diina said. "These young kids driving around with boom boxes are irritating to a lot of people, including Council members and myself. They are disrupting the tranquility of our city. In the summertime, people have their windows open. Noise is more noticeable."

Buffalo police have cited 77 people under a city ordinance enacted several years ago for these types of violations.
