Buffalo, NY – A reservist from Grand Island was killed by hostile fire this week while he was training Iraqi troops.
Lieutenant Colonel Terrence Crowe was the fourth member of the Rochester-based 98th Division to be killed in Iraq. Military officials said the attack occurred in extreme northwestern Iraq near the Syrian border.
Crowe taught military science at Canisius College in Buffalo. His Army career spanned 17 years. Canisius ROTC enrollment officer, Captain Brian Hyer, said Crowe was very passionate, which endeared him to the cadets he taught.
"He was certainly a professional and dedicated soldier," Hyer said. "We teach leading by example. He certainly did that. When his Reserve unit was called up, he deployed and made the ultimate sacrifice."
Crowe was deployed to Iraq last October. He did return home last month for a brief two week furlough...
"He was able to attend the commissioning on May 16th of our most recent graduating class," Hyer said. "So, we had just seen him very recently."
Before he joined Canisius, Crowe was employed as a carpenter by a North Tonawanda construction company.
He is survived by his parents and two children.
