Buffalo, NY – Little Dakota Guido, believed to be the tiniest baby ever born in Women and Children's Hospital in Buffalo, died this weekend after surviving for nearly two weeks.
Dakota weighed just eleven ounces and measured only nine inches long when she arrived three months prematurely on May 9th.
Doctors were cautiously optimistic about Dakota's chances of survival last week, listing her condition as relatively stable.
Dr. Rita Ryan called Dakota the tiniest baby she had seen in her 16 years in neonatology. Hospital officials say complications from prematurity caused the death.
Dakota was so tiny that when her father slipped his wedding ring over Dakota's hand, it dangled from her right elbow.
