Parks Open But Not Pristine

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – All Erie County parks were re-opened on Friday and Monday 49-Erie County parks workers will return to their jobs.

The workers were laid-off at the height of the County budget crisis. But under a plan approved the the Erie County Legislature, the parks are temporarily opened through November 1.

Parks Commissioner Andy Sedita asks that the public to be patient as workers clean up debris and prepare the parks for the summer season.

Sedita said department workers are making repairs to water leaks at both Ellicott Creek and Como Lake parks, as well as clearing away downed trees at Emery and Chestnut Ridge parks.

Sedita said the phones have been ringing off the hook at the County Parks Department with citizens calling to re-book shelters.

The county was forced to refund shelter bookings totaling about $48,000 back in February when the parks closed.
