Rochester, NY – The Pentagon is expected to make its recommendations to a base-closing commission sometime this week. President Bush will have until September 23rd to accept or reject them.
Republican Congressman Tom Reynolds says he is especially concerned about the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base. But speaking in Rochester Monday, Reynolds said there's been a coordinated effort to save the base.
"The construction of officers' quarters is one example. I have worked with Senator Clinton and Congresswoman Slaughter," Reynolds said. "I have personally brought money for the (base) fire station to be expanded. There have been other types of investments. We've worked with the Governor to lower the cost of energy at bases all across New York to make them more competitive."
Governor Pataki traveled to Washington last month to lobby on behalf of New York's military bases.
