Buffalo, NY – There is word that a Buffalo firefighter severely injured ten years ago has shown some signs of recovery. Don Herbert spoke some words over the weekend.
Herbert was trapped when a roof collapsed on him while he was battling a fire in December 1995. He lost oxygen for several minutes and suffered brain damage. He is also blind. But friends and family say he began speaking over the weekend.
Herbert is living at the Baker Manor Nursing Home in Orchard Park.
Doctors are now keeping a close watch on this development. Herbert is on a feeding tube.
