Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Common Council presented its fiscal action plan Thursday for the city's 2005-2006 fiscal year.
Council President David Franczyk gave a slide show presentation at City Hall, proposing a number of plans for improving public safety, housing, economic development and city finances. Among the public safety initiatives for this year are restoring police foot patrols and installing more surveillance cameras in crime-ridden areas.
"There are cameras all over the place. There are cameras in stores and elevators. That's to protect the public safety," Franczyk said. "The police are looking at drug corners. The greater threat to the public is the drug dealer on the corner."
The Council is also looking to increase the rate of demolitions for vacant and abandoned properties in the city.
