Buffalo, NY – A Sweet Home High School student has plead guilty to possessing bomb-making materials.
The 15-year old student is accused of plotting to bomb his high school. In Erie County Family Court, the teenager admitted to possessing bomb-making materials and instructional items seized by authorities at his home in Tonawanda on March 23rd.
Sweet Home Schools Superintendent Geoffrey Hicks says they were first alerted to the situation when some students and parents phoned the district and described strange and suspicious behavior by the student.
Wednesday night, there will be a meeting for parents to answer questions they have regarding the situation.
"We are going to have an open parent meeting at 7:00 in the auditorium," Hicks said. "We will answer any questions or concerns that parents might have and give them the kind of details we can about the student."
Authorities say the student told his friends he was planning to use bomb- materials at the school. Police say they discovered some items including piping, ball bearings and fuse material at the teen's home. The evidence included information on the Columbine High school shootings.
The teen was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a dangerous weapon. He's being held in a juvenile facility.
The judge ordered him to undergo a psychiatric exam before his April 25th sentencing.
