Buffalo, NY – It looks as if two county golf courses, Elma Meadows and Grover Cleveland, could re-open soon.
Members of the Elma Town Board met with the Erie County Legislature Monday to propose a town takeover of Elma Meadows. Legislators say they prefer keeping the park under county control for now. Elma Town Supervisor Mike Nolan says he doesn't care who runs the park, as long as it is open.
"The County Legislature has assured us that the county is going to re-open the park. That's fine with us. That's what we want here. We're advocates to get the park open," Nolan said. "If the county is unable to do that, the town is ready to step in and say we can do this. We could open a self-sustaining park and manage it."
The County Legislature will vote Thursday. If it's approved, as many as 14 laid off park workers could be reinstated and the barricades at Elma Meadows and Grover Cleveland come down shortly thereafter.
