By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Most Rev. Edward D. Head, the 11th Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, died late Tuesday afternoon. He was 85.

Bishop Head served as diocesan leader from 1973 to his retirement in 1995. He continued to live in Buffalo and played an active role as Bishop Emeritus.

Bishop Edward Kmiec, who is vacationing with family in his native New Jersey, said he "was saddened to learn of Bishop Head's passing."

The diocese will announce funeral arrangements on Wednesday.
