Buffalo, NY – A Blasdell man accused of killing his wife last Fall was sentenced Tuesday to 24-years in prison.
Robert Piwowar had pleaded guilty to a first degree manslaughter charge. Michelle Piwowar was missing for more than two weeks when her husband led authorities to her body.
District Attorney Frank Clark says the prosecution and defense reached a unique plea agreement.
"In order to be able to find the body, we agreed that he wouldn't get 25 years in prison," Clark said. "So, the court sentenced him to 24.
"I was gratified because under the circumstances, I think if the matter had come to trial, I wondered if we would have been able to get a conviction beyond manslaughter anyway."
Piwowar apologized in court to his family.
State Supreme Court Justice John O'Donnell called it a "cold, calculated murder."
