Buffalo, NY – Professional hockey is alive in well in Buffalo -- at least for one night. The Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League played the Edmonton Road Runners Tuesday night at Buffalo's HSBC Arena. Nearly 18,000 fans turned out to watch the Amerks win 2-0.
The Amerks -- the Buffalo Sabres' top minor league team -- drew more than 12,000 fans to a game back in November.
With the Sabres idled by the NHL lockout, hockey-starved fans in Buffalo helped make the team's home ice look like a big-league game. Plenty of fans from the Rochester area also attended the game.
