Albany, NY – State legislators return to Albany Monday to take care of some business, including possibly overriding some of Governor Pataki's vetoes.
Activists have been lobbying the State Senate to override Pataki's veto of a minimum-wage increase, something the Assembly already has done.
The measure would raise minimum wage from the current $5.15 per hour to $6 in January and eventually to $7.15 per hour by January 2007.
The Senate could also take up Pataki's veto of a bill that would force the collection of sales taxes on cigarettes and gasoline sold on American Indian reservations.
There's also been speculation in Albany that lawmakers may give themselves a pay raise. But some legislators think that would be a bad idea, considering the state budget passed earlier this year was the latest on record.
