Buffalo, NY – Buffalo area labor unions have kicked off a two-week fundraising drive dubbed "Working to Connect Our Troops."
The Western New York area Labor Federation hopes to raise thousands of dollars to purchase phone cards to let service people stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan call home during the holidays.
Major Frank Palombaro of the US Army says the troops appreciate the effort.
The unions raised $3,000 to buy phone cards even before the fundraising effort officially started.
The family support center at the 914th Airlift Wing will distribute the cards to military units throughout the region.
