Spyo Gyra Comes Home to Buffalo

By Joyce Kryszak

Buffalo, New York – One of Buffalo's oldest and most successful music stories comes home tomorrow night. Contemporary jazz legend Spyro Gyra will celebrate its thirty year roots in Buffalo Saturday night at UB's Center for the Arts. WBFO's Joyce Kryszak caught up with founding member Jay Beckenstein fresh off the band's European tour and talked with him about the band's future and its past.

Spyro Gyra has gone far since those 1970's jam session's in Buffalo's jazz clubs. Recently, all the way to Europe and back for a whirlwind one month tour. But Beckenstein, a founding member - and author of the joke that accidently named the band - says Buffalo never stopped being a special place. He says that's because it's where the band was born.

You can hear the interview with Beckenstein by clicking the "listen" icon above.

Spyro Gyra performs a benefit concert for the Boys and Girls Clubs at 8:oo PM Saturday night at UB's Center for the Arts.
