Are the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox Cursed?

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – This is the last weekend of baseball's regular season. And the two teams that continue to break their fans hearts are hoping this will be the year they win it all.

Entering the final weekend, the Boston Red Sox have clinched a spot in the American League playoffs and the Chicago Cubs remain in the hunt for the National League's wild card berth. In last year's playoffs, you'll recall, both teams snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, renewing speculation that both teams are cursed.

Well, we wanted to touch base with an expert in curses at the University at Buffalo. He is Phillips Stevens Jr., an associate professor of anthropology. Click the "listen" icon above to hear Mark Scott's interview with Dr. Stevens.

Dr. Stevens also comments on sports curses in this article from UB News Services.
