Petite Woman Wins Chicken Wing Eating Contest

By Associated Press

Buffalo, NY – A woman weighing barely 100 pounds gobbled more than five pounds of chicken wings to set a new world record and win the U.S.A. Chicken Wing Eating Championship at the National Buffalo Wing Festival.

Sonya Thomas of Alexandria, Va., ate 161 wings in 12 minutes Sunday.

She has won several other eating competitions. She said she prepared by eating only one meal Saturday and not eating at all before the contest Sunday.

A record 66,000 people attended the three-day wing festival, which also featured a bobbing contest with a pool full of Buffalo wings and blue cheese dressing.

People devoured more than 18 tons of wings at the festival.
