Buffalo, NY – The State Education Department is out with its list of schools in the so-called Big Five districts that are in need of improvement. There are 33 schools in Buffalo on the list. That represents nearly half of all city schools.
One Buffalo school -- P.S. 3 on Porter Avenue -- was removed from the list after making sufficient improvement in the past year.
State education officials say schools on the list receive additional funding and technical assistance to help them improve student performance. Under federal law, parents may transfer their children to a better performing school.
