Chautauqua Institution, NY – It was controversial during the years of the Vietnam War and the draft -- men who claimed conscientious objector status to avoid going to war. Even though the military is voluntary today, religious leaders say it's still appropriate for people to reflect on war and their potential role. The issue of conscientious objection will be explored Thursday at the Chautauqua Institution.
Jack Gilroy is a former US Army Infantryman who is now an author, peace activist and speaker. He'll be one of the leaders of Thursday's discussions at Chautauqua. They're scheduled at 3:30pm at the Hall of Christ, 6:30pm at the Hall of Philosophy and 9pm at the Alumni Hall Porch. All sessions are open to the public with the purchase of a Chautauqua day pass.
