Spoken Arts: Writer and Social Activist Alexis Deveaux

By Mary Van Vorst

Buffalo, NY – Alexis Deveaux's area of expertise is the intersection between literature and the social history of Black women. A writer, scholar, and social activist, Deveaux's PhD is in American Studies. She chairs UB's Women's Studies Department. It was all of that, coupled with a recommendation from the poet Adrienne Rich, that led Deveaux to be tapped to write the first biography of the late poet Audre Lorde. The book is out. It's called "Warrior Poet."

There's a book signing and reception for Alexis Deveaux Thursday evening, at 7, at the Burchfield Penny. It's free and open to the public.
