Buffalo, NY – A private college that has been committed to growth in the city of Buffalo was awarded a federal grant Tuesday.
Hamburg Congressman Jack Quinn presented a $50,000 check to Medialle College. It was a US Department of Education grant. The college has earmarked the funding to enhance its library and literacy programs.
Medaille president Dr. Joseph Bascuas says they are also seeking an additional $500,000 in federal funding to renovate the school's main building at Parkside and the Scajaquada Expressway.
"Our main building is a legacy building, but it is in great need of updating," Bascuas said. "The $500,000 would help us get the architectural drawings. We don't have a lot of campus and we can't displace things so we really need those drawings."
Congressman Quinn says the college's timing for the request is appropriate. He says it will be considered after the Easter break as part of next year's budget appropriations.
