Buffalo, NY – Three local ensembles will make a pilgrimage to a major musical Mecca in New York City. Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.
By now, you should know the way of getting to Carnegie Hall - practice, practice, practice. And this spring, there will be an ensemble on stage from each rehearsal, so to speak. The Buffalo Philharmonic has been preparing for a year now. UB's Baird Trio will also make the trip. But the American Legion Band of the Tonawandas received its invitation to participate in a major wind festival last fall.
Music Director William Weikert as chosen this official West Point March for their concert right after Easter, which came about through some back door channels.
With all these Western New York Groups playing at Carnegie Hall, I wonder if the famous Carnegie Deli will add beef on weck to the menu. We'll preview the other journeys to New York later on Music Notes. But you don't have to make the long trek yourself to hear that concert. William Weikert and the American Legion Band of the Tonawandas will give a preview on Sunday, March 28th at 7:30 in the Riviera Theatre at 67 Webster Street in North Tonawanda.
The Buffalo Philharmonic welcomes the Eagles on Friday (3/19), then Peter, Paul and Mary on Saturday (3/20), all starting at 8?p.m. before a Sunday children's concert Sunday (3/21) at 2:30?p.m.
The Syracuse Symphony visits the Reg Lenna Civic Center in Jamestown on Friday (3/19) at 8?p.m. Corey Cerovsek will be featured in Beethoven's Violin Concerto, before Daniel Hege leads Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony. Students under 18 will be admitted free with a paid adult.
Bassoonist Greg Einschlag and Pianist Debi Overton give a free half-hour recital Friday (3/19) at 12:30?p.m. in Saint Paul's Cathedral downtown.
Pianist Marcella Branagan performs Sunday at 3:30?p.m. in the Unity Church at the corner of Delaware and Auburn, sponsored by the Friends of Vienna.
And Organist James Flood performs American and French works Sunday (3/21) at 4?p.m. in University Presbyterian Church.
