Buffalo, NY – Employees at three Buffalo area plants are among 6,500 hourly workers who are on strike against American Axle and Manufacturing, a major General Motors supplier.
The United Auto Workers members at Detroit, Buffalo, Tonawanda and Cheektowaga went on strike at midnight after their old four-year contract expired.
Striking workers at the plant on Delavan Avenue in Buffalo say they are fighting for job security. Arrmon Aksew of Buffalo says they want to make sure the company doesn't send work overseas.
American Axle builds axles, gears, drivelines and related products. GM gets many of its axles from the company.
American Axle posted record revenues of $3.7 billion last year.
