Buffalo, NY – State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt hosts a public meeting Thursday night to discuss issues affecting neighborhoods in Buffalo's Black Rock section and the West Side.
Much is happening around what is becoming known as Buffalo's museum district. Just this week, Governor Pataki announced he's including $100 million in his proposed budget for the coming year to renovate the historic Richardson complex. But Assemblyman Hoyt says the impact of that project, and others, on the surrounding neighborhoods needs to be discussed.
"Certainly everybody is excited about the prospects of re-using the Richardson campus," Hoyt said. "But people want to have some input as to what that's going to look like and what type of entities might expand there."
One of those entities could be Buffalo State College, which Hoyt describes as bursting at the seams. He said West Side residents want to learn more about the college's future plans.
"They're buying up property west of their campus, and neighbors have concerns about that," Hoyt said.
Hoyt said it's essential that there's a positive dialogue between neighborhood residents and the leaders of the institutions located within them. Thursday night's meeting begins at 6 at the Polish Cadets Hall on Grant Street.
