New Astronomy Hall is Out There

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – A brand new astronomy hall is now open at the Buffalo Museum of Science.

"Our Place in Space" includes computer simulations, allowing visitors to examine the earth's closest neighbors and the far reaches of the universe.

The new space exhibit features five astronomy areas on the fourth floor of the museum.

The exhibit allows visitors to engage in the exploration of space and weather.

Museum President and CEO David Chesebrough said this is the first significant improvement of many more to come to the museum.

Children can actually sit down and build models of satellites by using plastic toy pieces.

Museum educator Torrey Black worked with some sixth graders from the Science Museum's Drew Magnet school on the toy designing satellites.

6th grader Zacheriah Wright said charts guide you in building the satellite models with plastic toy pieces.

$245,000 in funding for the new space exhibit was provided from proceeds the Junior League and the Buffalo News 2001 Decorators' Show House.
