Orchard Park will host a Marching Band competition.By Bill Raffel, WBFO
Buffalo, NY – Over 14 high school marching bands will compete in Orchard Park on Saturday (9/27). Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.
The high school marching scene is becoming quite complex nowadays with music teachers taking on the role of choreographers for about two months during the fall. Chris Revett works with about 130 students at Orchard Park High School designing a show and rehearsing it three times a week, before entering into weekly competitions.
See bands from the Northtowns, the Southern Tier and Pennsylvania complete in Orchard Park's 15th annual Cavalcade of Bands, starting Saturday (9/27) at 5:30?p.m. and lasting through 9:00 at the Orchard Park Athletic field, located off of Route 20A on Freeman Road.
Also this week. a chamber orchestra from Sweden visits UB's Slee Hall. Musica Vitae will perform Chopin's E?Minor Piano Concerto with Soloist Per Tengstrand, a work soon to be performed by the Buffalo Philharmonic, along with a transcription of the Grieg String Quartet. That's Wednesday night (9/24) at 8?p.m. with a preconcert talk at 7:15?p.m.
Also Wednesday at 8?p.m., three faculty members from Buffalo State College are in recital at Rockwell Hall: Rick Fleming, trombone, Crystal Reinoso, clarnet, and Marlene Witnauer, flute.
