Buffalo, NY – The University at Buffalo wrapped up its major fundraising campaign on a successful note Friday. "The Campaign for U-B: Generation to Generation" raised $291.6 million, exceeding the goal by more than $40 million.
A celebration was held at Slee Hall on the North Campus to announce the campaign's successful conclusion. There were more than 74,000 donors to the campaign, 62 percent of them alumni of the university. Vice President for University Advancement Jennifer McDonough said it was a joint effort.
"We had outstanding volunteer alumni involvement," McDonough said. "We also had the involvement of the university's academic units, the libraries, WBFO, the honors program and athletics."
It was the biggest fundraising campaign ever held by the university. The amount raised dwarfed the previous fundraising record set just a decade ago.
"The last campaign, 'Pathways to Greatness,' raised about $56 million," McDonough said. "So, this was a tremendous leap for us."
The millions raised in the campaign are being used for academic programs, research, student financial aid, buildings and more.
