Albany, NY – The State University of New York says applications for the academic year now underway increased by four percent at its four-year schools.
SUNY Chancellor Robert King says not only were applications up but so too was the quality of the applicant pool. The number of students applying for the Fall class who has a Grade Point Average in high school of three-point-seven and above increased by nearly 15 percent. The average SAT score for freshmen attending UB and the system's four other university centers increased by 40 points to 1177.
King says the system's ability to attract more students with stronger academic credentials is a tribute to the high quality of a SUNY education.
King also reported that the number of minority applicants also increased -- by 5.6 percent for Asians, 3.5 percent for African-Americans and 3 percent for Hispanics.
